"...Gavellian myths that have spread among the peoples of the Canyon of the Lost, and in particular the monks of the Bantisu Temple, often tell of a legendary monk and air-mage who lived several centuries ago. This figure's name is long forgotten; however, they are purported to have achieved such mastery and harmony with the wind that they were capable of walking on thin air. The oft-repeated legend states that upon the date they were fated to die, the air-mage instead departed the province, flying across the Great Ocean and voyaging to unknown lands, never to return.

Intriguingly, the Bantisu monks do not appear to be the only ones whose mythical tradition includes such a figure. An old clan of sorcerers native to an island in the ocean, the Waves Raisers, also tell of a travelling mage capable of flight; the Raisers consider them a guide, who shared with them the secrets of taming the weather, as well as a strict doctrine for how to use such knowledge, similar in several ways to the religious creed still taught in Bantisu.

While some historians dispute the veracity of these legends, scholars of magical lineages and traditions assert that the sheer power of the Waves Raisers' control of the elements are truly unmatched among any other magicks taught in Wynn. Exemplified by the sect's greatest feat, the Calming, we might find this indisputable; however, whether or not they truly share a relationship with this legendary figure capable of flight, an otherwise unheard-of power, remains a more contentious question..."

"The clan known as the Waves Raisers, while much of their history is lost or shrouded in secrecy, are known to have inhabited the desolate Kraken Isle for at least half a millennium. On clear days, their temple can be spotted rising from the Great Ocean, although to outsiders it hardly seems the place an ancient – and cataclysmically strong – sect of sea-witches might call home.

If you're currently sailing the Underwater Route, take a look westward, and you might even spot it!

The island itself was named long before the Calming of the Waves by Wynnic sailors, what few there were back then, who attributed the torrential storms and towering waves of the dangerous pre-Calming seas to the anger of an aquatic beast called the Kraken. They routinely sank offerings near the rocky reefs surrounding Kraken Isle, which they believed the creature slept beneath when the high seas were (relatively) peaceful.

The Waves Raisers, or the "Cult of Kraken", of course, are incredibly insular – increasingly so in recent decades – and rarely allow others to land at the Isle, so unfortunately a vacation is a no-go. And although you're surely familiar with the Calming, you likely don't know how they accomplished it; hardly anyone still living does.

Some believe that the Kraken really did live below Kraken Isle, and not only that, but that it really was responsible for the storms over the Great Ocean, and that the Waves Raisers themselves slew it in order to restore peace. I find that highly unlikely, though. Not least because if it were dead, then all those reported sightings of such a monster along the Route would be fabrications!

(Editor's note: reports of sea-monster sightings are unsubstantiated.)

Still, rumours and legends of the clan and their home abound. For example, what is the reason for their silent feud with the mages of Mage Island? Were they involved in the infamous sinking of Nelfores? Well, dear reader, I have some theories I'd like to share, but those will have to wait for a few chapters yet. Meanwhile, on the topic of vacation spots..."
